We walk into the choir room,

We each join our sections.

We stand to warm our voices,

We stretch across the sky.

We all watch as the conductor raises her arms.

We listen to each other,

And harmony

Music, in the choir room

I hear the altos singing deeply

I hear the tenors floating above the staff

I hear the baritones’ sweet melody

Sopranos soaring high above it all

And together we are one.

We practice, we solfege,

We repeat the tricky rhythms

Diction and blend

We help each other on the way.

We breathe in, and we hear the note in our mind.

We listen to each other,

And harmony

Music, in the choir room

We sing piano, we sing legato

We crescendo to forte.

We sing wrong notes

We make corrections

We help each other along the way.

I hear the altos singing deeply
